“Atrabile” is a term with roots in ancient Greek medicine, particularly in the teachings of Hippocrates. It refers to black bile, one of the four bodily humors believed to influence a person’s temperament and health. According to Hippocratic theory, an excess of atrabile could lead to melancholic behavior.
